There are several things to keep in mind when creating a website for your business. Just because you have a website, it doesn\'t mean people will be able to find you. And when they do arrive there, is it easy for them to navigate and find what they are looking for? Read the seven tips to help you avoid what \"kills\" the chances of a website working for you.

Some people think just because they have a website, they will be found on the internet. Sorry, but it rarely happens that way.

There are several things to consider when creating a website or changing your existing site.

1) Call to Action

Does the website tell the prospective customer what to do? This would be a "call to action." If the person gets confused or lost, they will just go off the site. If the person is not engaged in the first 30 seconds or so, you may lose them.

2) Not Too Many Distractions

Where does the eye focus when they first get there? Are there enough graphics so it is not all text? Or too many graphics that makes it unclear as what you want them to do?

If people feel their time is being wasted by searching and not finding what they are looking for, then they will go elsewhere too.

3) Just Enough To Read

Is there too much to read? Does the writing flow making it easy to read? Most people don't spend much time reading these days. They would rather watch a short video saying the same thing.

4) Continuity of the Traffic Source

After doing a search, when the customer gets to your site, are they going to find what they were looking for? Do the words they searched with match the information on the site?

5) Unnecessary Information

Are you only asking for pertinent information for the person to get what they want and what you want? Do they have to jump through too many hoops that will take them too long or confuse them, causing them to leave the site?

6) A Safe Site

Does your site look and have a "safe" feel to it? Are there symbols people can see when they get there, for example the Better Business Bureau (BBB) or Chamber of Commerce?

7) Trust Factors Do you have testimonials from people? Endorsements from people? Do you give them a reason to trust you?

These are all very important considerations when thinking about the creation of a website.
